Biography

Eric Walther was a German three-time Olympian modern pentathlete who started his Olympic career at Sydney in 2000 with a respectable 16th place. Four years later at Athens he was seventh, and at Beijing in 2008 he finished 16th again. He had his greatest moment in 2003 when he became the first German to win the World Championships, after winning the bronze medal the previous year.

In 2002 and 2007, Walther was again world champion, but this time with the German relay. In 2004, he was number one on the world ranking list. Domestically, Walther won six national titles in 2001-02, 2004-05, 2007, and 2009.
