Mario Knögler

Austrian sports shooter Mario Knögler participated at the 2000 Sydney, 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. He narrowly missed three finals in Sydney placing ninth with the 10 metres air rifle, with the small-bore rifle (three positions), and the prone events. In Athens, he only competed in the small-bore prone event and placed 16th. His best Olympic result came in 2008 when he finished a remarkable sixth in the three positions event. In the prone event he came 30th.

Knögler won one gold, three silver and three bronze medals at World Championships. At the Europeans he won seven gold, two silver and one bronze medal. Knögler started his sports career as an indoor hockey player. Due to a knee injury he turned to sports shooting. In 2000, he was awarded the Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic of Austria.
