German sport shooter Manfred Kurzer participated in the running target events at both the 2000 Sydney and the 2004 Athens Olympics. At Sydney he finished sixth, and in 2004 surprisingly won the gold medal. In 1990, 1994, and 2002, he won the World Championships, and added two more team silver and two team bronze medals. Kurzer later became a shooting coach at the Regional Centre of Frankfurt an der Oder.
