German freestyle swimmer Stefan Pohl finished sixth with the 4x200 free relay at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, but failed to reach the final in the individual 200 metres freestyle event. At European Championships he won one gold, three silvers, and one bronze medal. In 1997, Pohl was the German champion over 200 metres freestyle and in 1998 over 400 metres at the short-course championships.
