Tuncay Caliskan

Turkish-born taekwondo fighter Tuncay Caliskan represented Austria at the 2000 Sydney and the 2004 Athens Olympics. Unfortunately, he finished fourth in Sydney after a tough 4-2 defeat to Iran’s 2004 champion Hadi Saei, relegating Caliskan to fourth place in the featherweight class.

Caliskan won a bronze medal at the 2003 World Championships, and at the 2004 Athens Olympics he suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his knee in his first bout against Bertrand Gbongou Liango from Central African Republic and placed seventh. The injury eventually led to the end of the Austrian’s taekwondo career. Caliskan later became a personal trainer at Wien (Vienna).
