In 1999 the Laciga brothers won the silver medal at the Beach Volleyball World Championships, with Martin being ranked as the world number one player during the same year. The brothers won gold at the European Championships from 1998 to 2000, followed by silver in 2001 and 2002.
Martin and Paul competed in the beach volleyball tournaments at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the 2004 Athína Olympics, reaching the quarter-finals on both occasions. After his brother’s retirement, Martin partnered Jan Schneider at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but they were eliminated in the first round of the competition. Laciga was forced to retire from the sport in 2013 due to injuries.
