Biography

Raema Lisa Rumbewas was an Indonesian weightlifter who won three medals at the 2000, 2004, and 2008 Olympic Games, with silvers in 2000-04 and bronze in 2008. Rumbewas also won silver at the 2006 World Championships. She earned a full set of three medals at the Southeast Asian Games, highlighted by a gold medal in 2009. She also won a bronze medal at the 2002 Asian Games.

Rumbewas overcame epilepsy to become a world-class weightlifter. She actually had a seizure at the 2000 Sydney Olympics during the event, but regained full consciousness and was able to continue in the competition. Rumbewas was the cousin of badminton player Nitya Krishinda Maheswari, who participated in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
