Alfred Matt was at his best in the slalom and in the 1968-69 seasons, winning his Olympic bronze medal in slalom at Grenoble in 1968, and winning the seasonal slalom World Cup in 1968-69. During his World Cup career Matt won two slalom races and had nine podiums, with seven in slalom.
Injuries after 1969 severely curtailed his career but he did make the 1972 Winter Olympic team, placing 14th in slalom at Sapporo. A broken leg in 1973 ended his international ski career but he raced professionally in North American for two years before turning to coaching in 1975. Matt later ran a small bar in Sankt Anton am Arlberg.
