François Mautin played two games as a defender for the French ice hockey team at the 1928 Winter Olympics. He was also a reserve player at the 1930 World Championships. Nationally, he played for Club des Sports d’Hiver de Paris (1925-30), Racing Club de France (1931-33), and Français Volants (1933-34).
As a grandson of the famous jeweler Henri Vever (1854-1942), Mautin inherited a major art collection. Together with his sister he kept it hidden from the German occupation troops in France during World War II. After the war, Mautin became a naturalized US citizen. His art collection was kept in safe custody in New York and in 1986 sold to the Smithsonian Institute for $7 million.
