Ilkka Nummisto was a kayaker who competed at four Summer Olympics. In 1972 he carried the Finnish flag at the München Opening Ceremony.
After he ended his Olympic career, Nummisto turned to strongman contests, and competed five times at the World’s Strongest Man (WSM) event between 1986 and 1992, placing third in 1990. In 1986 Nummisto was the first man to lift all five McGlashen stones at the WSM. Nummisto won the Finnish Strongest Man title three times.
