Gerhard Nenning was one of the best Austrian alpine skiers in the 1960s. In 1968 he became the second overall World Cup winner in the downhill, winning three races. He was also an Olympian at the 1964 Innsbruck and the 1968 Grenoble Winter Games. At Innsbruck he finished seventh in the downhill and slalom, and sixth in the giant slalom. Four years later he came ninth in downhill and eighth in giant slalom.
Nenning was even more successful at World Championships, winning silvers in the alpine combination in 1962 and 1964, and a slalom bronze in 1962. Nationally, he won Austrian titles in combination (1963) and in downhill (1967).
