Rüdiger Noack, who was not related to his teammate Ulrich Noack, played for SG Dynamo Weißwasser from 1961-77, helping the team win East German national titles from 1961-65 and 1969-75. In 1966 he won a bronze medal at the Europeans, which the team received only in 1999. In total he earned 241 international caps, and he was inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame in 1999.
In 1968 the only Olympic match between the two Germanys took place at Grenoble. The match was won by West Germany 4-2 in the final round in 17th February, resulting in a seventh place finish for West Germany and eighth for East Germany. As a result, in 1970 the East German government decided not to give further state support to ice hockey.
After his active career Noack started coaching in Weißwasser. From 1977-82 he was an assistant coach of the East German national team, and from 1989-90 he was the last national head coach. After reunification he moved to West Germany and coached and then managed Krefeld Pinguins from 1995-2001. During his time in Krefeld he was employed by the municipality of Krefeld, responsible for the school sport department.
