Biography

Biathlete Alan Notley was a three-time Olympian between 1964-72 and was captain of the British biathlon and Nordic skiing team in the last of those years.

A member of the British Army, Notley joined the Green Jacket Regiment (later the Royal Green Jackets) in 1958 and served more than 20 years with them, reaching the rank of staff-sergeant. He was awarded the British Empire Medal in 1978.

In addition to three Olympic appearances, Notley took part in five World Biathlon Championships between 1965-73. He won the Army biathlon title in 1966 and was the Army rifle shooting champion at Bisley in 1963. Notley regularly competed at Bisley in both the Army and Combined Services competitions.
