Raymond Argentin took up canoeing in 1942 and gained proficiency in the sport rapidly. His career on the national team lasted only three years – from 1948 through 1950 – but, during that time, he was able to represent France in the C-1 10000 event at the 1948 London Olympics. At the Games, he missed the podium after finishing in fourth, coming in just two minutes later than bronze medalist Norm Lane of Canada. He was also selected to compete at the 1950 World Championships alongside his friend Robert Boutigny, but did not travel as his boss threatened to fire him if he attended the tournament. Nationally, he was the C-1 1000 champion in 1948 (Boutigny represented France in this event in London and won bronze) and the C-1 1000 and 10000 champion in 1949.
