Biography

East German ski jumper Klaus Ostwald participated in the 1980 Lake Placid and 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics. In 1980, he finished 15th in the large hill competition, and in 1984 finished 13th and 26th in the normal and the large hill events, respectively. He enjoyed his greatest sports moment when winning the 1983 World Ski Flying Championship. Ostwald also added a team silver and bronze at the Nordic Worlds in 1984 and 1985. In both years he also finished second and third overall at the Four Hills Tournaments.

Domestically, Ostwald won two gold, four silvers and five bronze medals during his active career. After German reunification he owned a summer luge run near Klingenthal.
