Janez Pavčič won numerous Yugoslavian national titles in cross-country skiing, including 13 in the 4x10 kilometers relay, and was also the biathlon champion in 1965. During this time he also represented his country in cross-country skiing at the 1956 Cortina d’Ampezzo Olympics, where he was 45th over 15 kilometers and disqualified over 30 kilometers, while placing 13th alongside his brother Cveto, Zdravko Hlebanja, and Matevž Kordež in the relay. He later worked as a coach and administrator, and authored numerous publications on his sport. Notably, he was head of cross-country skiing at the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics. By career, he was a police officer and he remained athletically active in cycling into his 90s.
