A Scots-Canadian from Winnipeg Edward Pitblado served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force and the Royal Flying Corps during World War One and later returned to Europe as a Rhodes Scholar to study at Queen’s College, Oxford University. He played for Great Britain against Switzerland in 1921 and represented Oxford University at both ice hockey and lacrosse during his studies. Pitblado, a forward, scored a hat-trick in Great Britain’s first match of the Olympic Games against France and one against Belguim.
After completing his studies he returned to Canada and set up a law practice in Winnipeg. Pitblado served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War Two.
