Biography

Pavel Ploc was a pioneer in the sport of biathlon in Czechoslovakia and won 24 national titles during his career. Ploc competed in the 20 kilometres event at the 1968 Grenoble Olympics where he finished 15th. Four years later he skied at the 1972 Sapporo Olympics, finishing 47th in the 20 kilometres and 12th in the 4 × 7.5 kilometres relay. In between his two Olympic appearances he finished fourth in the relay at the 1969 World Championships in Zakopane, Poland, along with compatriots Ladislav Žižka, Stanislav Fajstavr, and Vladimír Jeřábek. In 2016 Ploc was inducted into the Czech Biathlon Hall of Fame. His son, also called Ploc, was a champion ski jumper.
