Mihail Popescu played ice hockey for Romania at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics. A defenseman, Popescu spent his entire career with Steaua Bucareşti, helping them win several national championships. He played at three World Championships in the B-pool, in 1979, 1981, and 1983. Popescu later became a coach, serving as U-18 national team coach.
