Biography

Claudia Hernández was a Mexican professional tennis player. Hernández achieved a career-best singles ranking of 203 in the world in July 1987, and a doubles ranking of 197 in the world in August 1987.

Hernández won the girls 16-and-under title at the 1982 Orange Bowl tournament and won gold in the singles at the Central American and Caribbean Games the same year. The following year she reached the girls’ singles quarter-finals at the US Open. Hernández won two bronze medals in the doubles at the Pan American Games, the first in 1983 and the second in 1987. She won her first ITF singles final in August 1986 in Querétaro, Mexico, beating Lucila Becerra in a walkover.

Hernández competed in the singles and doubles at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. In the singles she lost in the second round to Zina Garrison of the United States. In the doubles she teamed with Xóchitl Escobedo with the pair losing in the first round.
