Erich Recknagel was one of the first skiers who used roller-wheels on his skis, allowing him to also train in the summer. At the 1928 St. Moritz Winter Olympics he placed eleventh in the normal hill. He was German Champion 1930 in the Nordic Combined and 1931 to 1933 in Ski Jumping.
Later he became a prominent sports administrator, being co-founder of the NOC of East Germany in 1948 and first sports manager of the ski section within the NOC. He was also a jumping referee at the Olympics from 1956 to 1964, as a member of the Executive Board of the FIS for ski jumping since 1953. His popularity led to a sponsorship contract with the producer of a chocolate drink called “Mauxion” – one of the first such contracts in Germany.
