Georges Turlier

Georges Turlier took up canoeing after World War II and won his first French national title in 1947. He won six additional titles through 1961 and also represented France at two editions of the Olympic Games. In 1952, he and Jean Laudet won gold in the C-2 10,000 event, while in 1960 he was eighth with Michel Picard in the C-2 1000. In between, he won gold in the C2 at the Wildwater World Championships with Georges Dransart. Although he trained as a carpenter, after his retirement from active competition he worked as a physical education instructor and in sports management.
