Although a town of only 2,000 inhabitants, Ponte di Legno, close to the Swiss border, is the home of several Italian ski jumpers, among them Igino Rizzi. Placing third at the 1948 Italian Championships, Rizzi competed in St. Moritz at the Olympics, but finished next-to-last. Despite winning the Italian title in 1952, Rizzi did not return to the Olympics, although he competed at the 1954 World Championships in Falun, Sweden. After his active career, he became a ski jumping trainer and founded an alpine skiing school. Rizzi later earned a living as a hotelier in his home town.
