Computer operator Lesley Oliver started canoeing competitivity in 1964. She won the national K-1 3000 metres title in 1967 and that year teamed up with Barbara Mean in the doubles. They won a K-2 silver medal at that year’s European Junior Championships in Sweden, where Oliver also won silver in the singles. The following year the pair qualified for the K-2 final at the Mexico Olympics but finished eighth (out of nine).
