Biography

Jorma Ruissalo was a Finnish speed skater who represented Tampereen Pyrintö in Tampere. Ruissalo was the national champion in the 500 metres event in 1931. This performance, along with other consistent results, earned him a place on the Olympic team for the 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Games. In the 500 metres an unusual result occurred with Ruissalo finishing in a three-way tie for eighth spot with fellow Finnish skaters Antero Ojala and Birger Wasenius, who all set a time of 44.9 seconds. After World War II Ruissalo worked as a police officer and gained a law degree from the University of Helsinki. He was 94-years-old when he died in June 2006.
