Biography

In addition to his Olympic silver medal in the biathlon relay and his bronze medal in the 20 km at the 1980 Winter Olympics East German biathlete Eberhard Rösch, won three World Championship golds in the relay in 1978, 1979, and 1981. Individually he also won a silver medal in the 10 km and a bronze medal in the 20 km at Hochfilzen in 1978. At the East German Championships, Rösch won five consecutive relay titles (1976-80) with SG Dynamo Zinnwald. Individually, he had three bronze medals in the GDR Nationals, in the 10 km and 20 km in 1976, and in the 10 km in 1981.

Rösch was the father of biathlete Michael Rösch, who competed at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games for German, and the 2018 Olympic Winter Games for Belgium. In 2005 it became known that Eberhard Rösch had worked for 17 years as an active IM (internal employee) for the State Security (Stasi) of the former GDR. Until 2012 he was head of the National Training Center Base at Altenberg, and later became Biathlon Marshal and Technical Director in Altenberg.
