Biography
East German biathlete André Sehmisch finished fifth in the 10 km sprint at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. He was also fifth with the East German relay team and was placed seventh in the 20 km event. At the World Biathlon Championships, he won two gold, three silver and four bronze medals. In 1986, he also won the overall World Cup title.
Sehmisch was one of the world’s best biathletes at the time of the political change in Germany, but only played a subordinate role in the sports-political orientation of the German national team. He then became a participant in extreme ski marathons, and was also a trainer for cross-country skiing and Nordic walking.
