Theodor Sele was already successful as an Alpine skier before becoming a teenager, and Liechtenstein’s neutrality during World War II allowed him to train unimpeded by the circumstances of the conflict. He first represented his country in the Olympics at the age of 16, at the 1948 St. Moritz Games, where he was 58th in the combined and 90th in the downhill. He missed the 1952 Oslo Olympics, but competed again in Cortina d’Ampezzo in 1956, where he was 45th in the slalom and 70th in the giant slalom. Following his retirement from active competition, he remained active in the administration of the sport, serving as chairman of the Triesenberg Ski Club and managing routes for Alpine ski races.
