Biography

German ski jumper Gerd Siegmund placed 11th at the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics in the normal hill event. The following year he won his only international medal with the German ski jumping team at the World Championships, when he took silver. At national championships Siegmund won three gold medals, four silvers and three bronzes between 1993-99.

Siegmund later became a sports commentator on ski jumping events with the German TV channels ARD, ZDF, and Eurosport. He was also engaged as a sports manager of up-and-coming German ski jumpers. At Klingenthal he became a marketing manager of World Cup events at Thuringia, and in 2015 was elected president of the Skiing Federation of Thuringia.
