Biography
German luger Steffen Skel partnered Steffen Wöller in the men’s doubles at three consecutive Winter Olympics from 1994 at Lillehammer to 2002 at Salt Lake City. Their best result was fourth place in 2002. At World Championships they both won one gold, three silvers, and a bronze medal. They also won three golds and three silvers at European Championships. In 2001, they won the overall World Cup title.
Skel later studied sports science at the Deutsche Sporthochschule at Köln and became a graduated sports trainer. He then joined the German Bobsleigh and Luge Federation as a national coach. Skel married skeleton racer Diana Sartor and took her name. He was then employed by the Swiss and the South Korean national teams as a luging coach. After the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Games he returned to the German national team.
