Dr. Rudolf Sönning finished 18th with the four/five man bob Germany I at the 1928 St. Moritz Winter Olympics. He started for Münchener Sportclub. He later became an ophthalmologist and a politician. Little is known about his bob sleigh career, other than that he took part in the Olympics 1928 in the four/five-man bob.
Between 1950 and 1970 he was a member of the Landtag of Bavaria (1950-52 for the liberal party FDP and from 1952-70 for the Bavarian party CSU). In 1979 he self-published his autobiography Ein unbequemer Zeitgenosse (An Inconvenient Contemporary). In 1975 he was awarded the Paracelsus Medal by the Bundesärztekammer. Sönning was especially a health politician and among other subjects responsible for the introduction of eye tests for driving license applicants.
