Biography

Overshadowed by Walter Demel for his entire career, cross country skier Herbert Steinbeißer competed in two Olympics. At Innsbruck in 1964, representing the mixed German team, he finished 30th over 50 km. In 1968, then representing West Germany, he was placed 46th in the 30 km event, and was eighth in the 4x10 km relay. Steinbeißer also participated at the 1966 Nordic Worlds and in 1969 won the West German national relay title with his home club SC Ruhpolding. By profession, he was a customer relations officer.
