Harald Christian Strand Nilsen was never able to win a major international race, with the highlight of his career his bronze medal in combined at the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics. Strand Nilsen had six podium finishes in World Cup races, with two silvers and four bronzes, but never made the top step. He was second in the seasonal combined World Cup in 1994/95 and third that season in the giant slalom World Cup. He also won the 1995 Norwegian title in Super G, and the combined in 1992 and 1994. He was never able to match his successes of 1994-95 and retired after the 2002/03 season. Strand Nilsen settled in Gjøvik, working as a chiropractor.
