Sprint canoeist Anita Nüßner finished sixth in the K1- 500 meters at the 1968 Mexico Olympics. From 1959-63 she won East German national titles in the K2-500 meters, and from 1960-62 helped DHfK Leipzig win the K4-500 meters title, and the 4 x 500 metres relay title from 1960-63. In 1967 Nüßner won the long distance K1-5,000 meters title. Her only World Championships medal was a bronze in the K4-500 in 1963.
