Biography

Péter Szikla sterted his sports career with swimming and only started skiing when he was a third-year high school student. He competed for the first time in 1936, where he immediately finished in third place and was included in the youth national team. From 1937 he competed in the colors of MAFC. At the national championships, he won 4-4-4 (1941-1944) championships in individual downhill, alpine combined and downhill team and two (1942, 1944) in slalom. The Second World War interrupted his career. After the war, in addition to racing, he also held the position of federal captain of the alpine discipline.

In 1947 he won the individual downhill at the college world championships in Davos, and then won the downhill and alpine combined at the Balkan Cup. In 1948 he participated at the St. Moritz Olympics where he competed in all three events. He finished 25th in the slalom, 30th in the alpine combined, and 48th in the downhill. In addition to skiing he often participated in motorcycle races. He graduated from the Budapest Technical University with an engineering degree. After the Olympics he left Hungary and settled in Argentina.
