Finnish ice hockey defenseman Olli Saarinen had a domestic career that spanned almost two decades. Saarinen spent five seasons with Vaasan Sport before joining Kiekkoreipas in 1977. He spent four seasons with the side before playing with HV71 in the Swedish leagues. By 1983 he had returned to Finland to play for Oulun Kärpät, ending his career with four seasons with Vaasan Sport from 1986 to 1990. After playing a handful of international matches Saarinen was called up to Finland’s national ice hockey team for the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics. At the Games he played in all seven of the team’s matches, with Finland just missing out on a medal after finishing fourth.
