Yoichi Takata was born in the previously Japanese part of Sakhalin. He placed second in the ski jumping event at the 1928 All Japan Ski Championships, the first that was held on the newly built hill at Sapporo. At the 1932 Winter Games in Lake Placid he fell in the second round and had to be hospitalized.
