Kinzo Taniguchi attracted attention for the first time as a high school student placing second in the 50 km cross country at the 1930 All Japan Ski Championships. In the following year, he arrived late to the start of the same event due to a medical examination by the military. Despite a handicap of 2 ½ minutes, he placed fifth and was selected for the team for the 1932 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. There, he competed in the 50 km but had to resign during the race due to the bad conditions. After World War II, Taniguchi moved to Japan, when Sakhalin became part of Russia, to become a technical instructor for competitive skiing in Ashio, Kanto region.
