Mats Thelin started playing hockey with AIK Solna in 1980 and played there until 1984, winning Swedish titles with them in 1982 and 1984. Thelin had been drafted by Boston Bruins of the NHL in 1981 and joined the team in 1984, playing three seasons and 163 games with the Bruins. In 1987, Thelin moved back to Europe and played with AIK until his retirement in 1994. With the Swedish national team, Thelin won Olympic bronze in 1984, was runner-up at the 1984 Canada Cup and won silver at the 1982 and bronze at the 1983 European Championships. He was awarded the Stora Grabbars Märke (Big Boys’ Badge) #121 in ice hockey. Thelin later worked with Aftonbladet’s exclusive hockey TV program “Power Play” and also appeared in the 2009 edition of the Swedish reality show “Expedition Robinson,” which is similar to the US reality show “Survivor.”
