Flatwater canoer Wolfgang Lange was part of the mixed German team at the 1960 Roma Olympics. He placed seventh in the K1-1,000, and eighth with his longtime partner Dieter Krause in the K2-1,000. In 1968 Lange returned within the East German team and finished eighth in the K1-1,000.
At the World Championships, representing East Germany, Lange won a 1963 gold in K4-1,000, a silver in K2-1,000, and a bronze in the relay. He added another bronze in the 1966 K4-10K. In 1959, 1966 and 1968 Lange won the East German K1-1,000 title, also winning the K2-1,000 in 1959 and 1966, and adding an additional four K4 titles. Lange later became a longtime coach at his home club SC Magdeburg.
