East German flatwater canoeists Dieter Lichtenberg and Dirk Weise finished seventh in C-2 1,000 at the 1972 München Olympics. In 1972 and 1974 both claimed the East German titles in the C-2 1,000, winning in 1974 in the 500 metres. Lichtenberg also earned two third and one second place in C-1 at the nationals.
