Biography

Flatwater canoeist Hans-Jürgen Tode partnered Detlef Bothe at the 1976 Montréal Summer Games. Both participated in the C-2 500 and 1,000 metre events. Their fifth place finish in the longer of the two distances was their best result. Domestically, Tode won the East German C-1 500 title (1978), C-2 500 (1976 and 1980), C-1 1,000 (1978), and C-2 1,000 (1976). Tode later turned to coaching, and moved after German re-unification, to became the Denmark national head coach.
