Biography

In the late 1920s and early 1930s Dolf van der Scheer was one of the best speed skaters in the Netherlands. Van der Scheer was a two-time national all-round champion, winning the title in 1929 and 1933. He also had success in the all-round event at international competitions, winning bronze at the World Championships in 1930 and bronze at the European Championships in 1931. His performances earned him a place on the Olympic team for the 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Games, where he competed in four events. Van der Scheer had his best results in the 1,500 metres, finishing ninth, and the 5,000 metres, where he came tenth.

Personal Bests: 500 – 44.3 (1936); 1500 – 2:18.9 (1933); 5000 – 8:34.6 (1933); 10000 – 18:04.9 (1936).
