Biography

Lluís Viu was active in both sport and politics in his home of Andorra. As skier Viu competed for Spain at the 1964 Innsbruck Olympics, as the Andorran Olympic Committee (COA) had not been recognised by the IOC at the time. At the Games he took part in the downhill, slalom, and giant slalom, having a best result of 32nd in the latter event. Viu later helped to co-found the COA, serving as the organisations first Vice-President and treasurer. He then spent his life promoting winter sports in Andorra, eventually being honoured by the Andorran Ski Federation in 2011.

Viu worked closely with the Spanish ski team as a coach and member of their selection committee. In Andorra he also co-founded the several associations including the Red Cross and UNICEF, before been appointed as Andorra’s permanent representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva. From 1992 to 1997 Viu severed as the counsel of Andorra la Vella, where he led initiatives around renovation of the streets.
