Austrian ice hockey forward Franz Voves played with Austria at the 1976 Innsbruck Winter Olympics. The team was eliminated in the group stage and placed eighth as second in the consolation round. Voves won 33 international caps, scoring 12 goals and two assists. Domestically, he played entirely with ATSE Graz from 1968-77 and won the national title in 1975.
Later Voves started a political career and became Governor of Styria from 2005-15 as a member of the left-winged party SPÖ (Social Democratic Party of Austria). From 1995-2003, he was president of the ASKÖ regional association (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Sport und Körperkultur in Österreich), a working group for sport and physical culture in Austria. He was also vice-president of the ASKÖ federal organization until 2005.
