German whitewater canoeist Eva Roth finished an unfortunate fourth in the kayak singles at the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics, when canoe slalom became a permanent fixture in the Olympic program after its first appearance in 1972. Roth won national titles in 1988-89 and 1992. Her mother Irmi was also a whitewater canoeist and sports administrator at her home club TSV Schwaben Augsburg.
