Biography

Sepp Walcher was an Austrian alpine skier who finished ninth in the downhill of the 1976 Innsbruck Winter Olympics. He also won the 1978 World Championships in downhill. Therefore, he was elected Sportsman of the Year in Austria. Walcher won five world cup races in total (all downhill) and placed second in the downhill overall world cup in 1977 and 1978. Three times, in 1972-73 and 1978, he was the Austrian national champion.

Walcher retired in 1981 and raised three children. He ran a café, a skiing hut, and a guest house at Schladming. Sadly, he died in a benefit skiing competition in January at just 29-years-of-age.
