Hermann Weinbuch was a West German Nordic combined athlete and ski jumper who earned World Championship titles with the team in 1985 and 1987. He also became the individual World Champion in 1985 and added a bronze medal in 1987. At three consecutive Winter Games from 1980-88 he missed the podium but finished eighth in 1984 as his best result. In the 1985/86 season Weinbuch won the overall World Cup. In his youth he won the Youth Worlds in 1978 and 1979.
After his active career, in which he was awarded the Holmenkollen medal in 1987, Weinbuch started a coaching career. He was also awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. In 1996 he was named chief coach of the German Nordic combined team. His father Hermann Weinbuch was a long-time sports administrator with the German and the International Skiing Federations.
