Heinz Weisenbach was a member of the West German ice hockey team that finished seventh at the 1968 Grenoble Winter Olympics. He earned 36 international caps and scored two goals. Domestically Weisenbach played with EV Füssen (1964-75) and helped them win West German championships in 1965, 1968, 1971, and 1973. For eight months in 1969 he played in South Africa, and therefore missed Füssen’s West German national title in 1969.
In 1976 Weisenbach started a career as an ice hockey coach first with Mannheimer ERC. He was the first German coach who was responsible for the recruiting of so-called German-Canadians for Bundesliga clubs. He recruited 12 Canadians with German roots to the Bundesliga in 1976 and 1977, including six for Mannheimer ERC. He later also coached Kölner Haie, Düsseldorfer EG, EVU Feldkirch in Austria, and EV Füssen.
