Helmut Cämmerer, a flatwater canoeist, won the European Championship in 1933 in the K-1 over 1,000 metres and the following year came second in the K-2 event. At the 1936 Berlin Olympics he won the K-1 silver medal and two years later he added another silver in the World Championships. He won the German K-1 title over 1,000 metres in 1933 and 1936.
